'Tis the season...
Now we’re officially here. It’s mid-December and we’re well into the swing of all things Christmas, or if not, we really should be. ‘The Elf’ is fully deployed getting into a tight pickle on a nightly basis, the Quality Street are open with only the blue ones left in the tin and the social diary is filling up as fast as your current account is emptying. On the plus side, you and the Christmas cake are enjoying your weekly, if not daily, brandy fix in equal measures.
Amongst all the traditions and family rituals, the commercial side of Christmas is hard to ignore, even for the traditionalists and eco warriors amongst us. As usual, early November saw the much-anticipated big reveal of the Christmas ads from the big guns – John Lewis, M&S, Lidl, Aldi, Tesco they’re all playing to our heart strings but really our purse strings. The pure, unpolluted joy of giving, yeah right – it doesn’t take much to convince us we need a matching set of family PJs (for one night only), a life size reindeer in the garden and a stash of Pringles and other indulgent festive nibbles guaranteed to leave you gasping for a maraschino adorned Snowball on the rocks to rehydrate.
Joking apart, we’re all big fans of the festive season here, Heart FM Christmas has been lifting the spirits in the Nexus office since December 1st, our team ‘Secret Santa’ has been drawn and, judging by habits here, if you’re not quaffing the latest Bailey’s flavoured Lebeinz with your mid-morning cuppa, you quite frankly haven’t lived.
